The Rain Didn't Bring Us Down in Pod A!

Today in the Walunt room, the children were very busy! Drawing in the light room was a popular activity all day long. Many children were experimenting with Legos and water at the wet sensory table. Also, the color mixing table continued to be a big hit for all of the children.

The Oak Room was also very busy today! The children were painting and glaceing so often that all of the drying racks were full at the end of the day!  The Ipads were also occupied all day long. The children had the opportunity to take a photo of themselves then draw a self-portrait based off of that photo. The stage was also a very popular area in the morning!

Because of the rain, all of the children had to wear rain boots and rain pants outside. They discovered that they could go down the slide faster than any other day because of their rain pants! The slide was busy all morning long!

A Rainy Start to an Industrious Day!

Today in the Pod B classrooms we had a variety of play going on! In the Pine Classroom children engaged in large group play with the diner area. The students worked cooperatively in a large group setting and engaged in imaginary play. The room was full of children and everyone seemed to have energy!

In the Maple room construction was taking place in smaller groups or pairs of students. We had many students working independently as well. Students were working on making a house on the Lego table, adding people and rooms to house the people! We also had children making a fire station out of the magna-tiles. This fire station housed many of the rooms firetrucks and was a hit with the children!

Wednesday Discoveries!

Today in the Oak room the children were able to use i pad's to take pictures of their faces. They then used these pictures to draw self portraits of themselves. Many children also enjoyed taking pictures with a friend or two and drawing a group portrait.

Also in the Oak room we set up our special crafts area where children enjoyed stringing all different types of beads. The children enjoyed racing each other to see who could get all the beads on the wire first. We also used the beads to talk about which colors we were using!

In the afternoon during outside time we had a CMU honor student come visit the children. She brought a fishing activity with her. The children stood on the bridge and got to fish with their magnetic fishing poles and paper fish. Everyone here at the CDLL appreciates her time!

Exploring New Things Today!

Today children from both pods got to experience full body clay exploration! Most of the children explored the clay with their bare feet and described how it felt between their toes. Some of the girls started hopping on each piece like they were frogs jumping on lily pads.

It was such a beautiful day today so some teachers decided to bring their small groups outside to get some fresh air. Mrs. Gursky took her small group outside to play duck duck goose.

There was also a fishing activity for the children to do at the end of the day before they got picked up. They were catching paper fish with magnets on them. It was very exciting to have a new activity outside for them to do!

Another creative day here in Pod A!

Pod A has had a lot of action this week! This afternoon there was a fire drill where the children and teachers practiced quick and safe emergency procedures for exiting the building. We gathered in the courtyard across the street for attendance.
The Walnut room has been quite a hit with all of the new centers for the children to explore. A big hit today was the color mixing center where children were able to discover ways to make different colors using test tubes, pipettes and colored water!

 I made a purple potion

When I mixed all the colors it turns black

If you put lots of red and little yellow it made pink

I'm going to mix all kind of colors!

I made blueberry grape juice

In the Oak room today children were able to explore a new material at the texture table, FLOAM! The art cart was brought outside for children to use during outdoor play. Creating art under the sun was both entertaining and lively!

Fun with Hammering!

Today in Maple the children were introduced to something new at the wood working center, real hammer and nails! The children went right to the new tools with excitement, some of the 402's and 409's  were a little nervous, but they did great with the new tools!

Charlie hammered down his first nail, then he stood up and exclaimed, "I did it"!

We explained to the children how important it was to be safe with these new tools. We stressed how heavy the hammer was and how sharp the nails are. We told them that they could watch their fellow classmates use the tools but they needed to stay back, just to be on the safe side.

This afternoon in the Pine classroom the children were able to play and have fun with some new items that we added to the dog park center. We added: dog toys, dog brushes and dog carriers. The carriers gave the children another option as to how and where to take the dogs to different places besides the park. I saw children taking their dogs to the vet office and to the dog store. This added a whole new level of experience for the children to explore.
