Just Buggin' Around!

Today, the children took a little break from play with the insects, and decided to become bugs of their own! They strapped on the bug wings that were available to them outside, and used there imaginations to pretend they were doing things like flying, stinging people, or just crawling around. Many of the children decided to be bumble bees today.

"I am going to sting you!" -Lamar
"Bees are awesome! They can fly, make honey, and sting people! I am not even scared of them." -Mohammad

Happy Tuesday!

Today, during morning centers, some children wanted to search for bugs. Not only did the children want to search for bugs, but they wanted to ride the bikes while they were searching for bugs. The children came up with a solution to go on a bug hunt while riding their bikes. The children found a lot of different types of bugs on their bug hunt. They had a lot of fun!

With the weather being so beautiful this week we transitioned to being outside during morning and afternoon center time. The children were able to plan to be outside during these times and could do a variety of activities. Riding bikes, hunting for bugs, climbing on toys and playing in the sand kept the children busy, happy, and enjoying the sunshine!

Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!

Today in the CDLL we beat the heat blowing bubbles in the shade outside. Some children enjoyed blowing the bubbles and others loved to chase and pop them. Extra outside time during the summer semester is allowing us to add so many fun outdoor activities. The bubbles were a huge hit and we plan to have them out more often.

Bug Habitat

Wednesday Wednesday Wednesday!!!

May 25th, 2016

The students have been extremely interested in bugs lately. We put in a bug habitat to give the children the chance to watch bugs in their natural habitat. They have been catching bugs such as rollie pollies, spiders, worms and centipedes. Who knows what else they will find!

May 25, 2016

Today students played outside for the majority of the day. We are really enjoying this beautiful weather, and really glad that it did not rain today! While outside Stephen, Daniel, Hunter and Alana went on the scavenger hunt. This was created for children to give a purpose of exploration in nature. Some things that they can find on the scavenger hunt are dirt, flowers, spiders, tree and much more!

"Come on guys! Let's find the ant!"- Daniel

Bubbles

This afternoon the CDLL staff set bubbles out for a center outside! The children really enjoyed the bubbles. They were full of energy and loved chasing the bubbles throughout the playground and seeing the different sizes of bubbles. Some of the questions the children had were the following  " How come the bubbles don't look like the shapes of the blower?", "how do  the bubbles go so fast?" and a popular question was "why do they pop?" The children cannot wait to get the bubbles out again!

Asher: " let's see how far my bubbles go!"

Asa: " I love the bubbles, they make me happy"

Andrew: "Look look look! my bubbles is huge"

Airplanes

This afternoon Mr. Jonaitis brought out supplies to make and decorate paper airplanes! The children loved it! They competed to see how far, fast, and high their airplanes could go. There were many questions about how the airplanes fly and what makes some fly faster or further.

Anaya: "How do they make them fly?
Daniel: "I'm trying to get it to the slide."

Daniel: "Mine is a jet!"
Charlie: "Mine's an airplane!"

Micah: "Whoa! Look how far mine went!"

Crafts Outside!
Monday, May 23, 2016

Since it was beautiful out today, we spent a lot of time outside. This morning during centers, a lot of children decided to go to the art table. The children made crafts using paper plates and put glue on the plates and sprinkled colored craft sand on it. The children also colored pieces of paper with crayons. They had a lot of fun!

Sifting Through the Sand

Today, we spent some time in the sandbox. The children were wondering why there were so many rocks in the sand. They learned how to 'sift' through the sand to collect the rocks.

"It feels kind of weird! It kind of tickles."

Yesterday the block area was very popular! The children used blocks to explore in many different ways! One way that was very popular was to explore dinosaurs with the blocks!

Charlie: "I'm going to build it taller than me!"

Pelumi: "I'm going to get the car up here with the ramp."

Danny: "Only the little ones can go through and the big dinosaur catches them at the end."

Micah: "I made this cage so the dinosaurs can't get out!"
