The Day And The Life In The Pine Room

4/6/17

Today, many activities occurred in the Pine Room. The children were busy engaging in sociodramatic play. Some were performing on the sage, playing school, while others were playing house or their own made up game. Children on the stage sang a song they remembered from a video, some played a game about being bugs, and not getting stuck in the sticky stuff and their powers would help them get to the cave, while the rest were playing house, or school based on their own experiences.

"Oranges and Pairs, Oranges and Pairs, They are best friends for ever," sang James & Graham.

"This blanket is dirty, so i need to wash it," said Harper
"Baby, it's time to eat because mommy says so," said Lily C.
Coen said, "I'm the teacher"

"I'm driving the school bus, voom voom," said Logan.

"i'm playing the drums, i like drums," Andre said.

Special Visitors

Today during small group time, Mr. Young showed off his talent with three fellow CMU cheerleaders. All of the children gathered outside to watch them perform cheers and do stunts. The children gave a variety of oohs and ahh's after each stunt.

Once it started raining, the cheerleaders came into the indoor movement room and gave each child the opportunity to sit in a stunt. The children took turns sitting on the cheerleaders arms.

Mr Young - "Where do cheerleaders cheer?"
Graeme - "At baseball games"

Macrae looked excited to be in the stunt.

April Showers

On this rainy Tuesday the children had extended center time instead of going outside. In Pod A, the children were very busy in the Oak room working on building towers and ramps. They rolled cars and marbles down the structures they built. Zane and Coen used styrofoam tubes to talk to each other. Alijah built a ramp using blocks and cardboard for cars to go down. Mathius and Divine worked together to build a ramp and put marbles down it.

Busy Day in the Hallway

Today the children enjoyed making things for each other and creating things for themselves as well. The children would make something for another child and put it in their mail box. Using papers, stickers, scissors, staples, pencils, and markers to create different things. At one end of the hallway Ella and Ariona were pretending to pack a suitcase for a day at the waterpark. At the other end of the hallway the children enjoyed time using the musical instruments like the drums and xylophone.

Above, Sovie cuts strips of paper to get ready to put stickers on.

Fun Filled Monday In The CDLL

It was a busy, fun filled Monday in the CDLL. Children came back from the long weekend to find a variety of hands on activities that kept the children engaged and active through out the day.
During morning centers, the children welcomed a few local goats to the CDLL. The children were able to pet, feed, and play with the goats outside on the CDLL playground.

"This one is big, he is almost as tall as I am." -Evie

During morning centers, the children had the opportunity to learn Tia Chi while the goats wondered around the grass.

In the Indoor Movement Room, the children constructed a "laser" obstacle course, with red paper streamers. They taped paper streamers to different object in the indoor movement room creating different levels that they could jump or crawl under. The children worked together to create a CDLL original obstacle course game, discussing the rules of the game.

" I am going to crawl under, because that's to high to jump." -Pemisire

" I am going to roll under the lasers." -Harper

The playground is starting to show it's colors, Averyl found flowers starting to grow in the garden. While looking at the flowers, she talked about how flowers grow.

"These are blue flowers, they need dirt, water, and sun light to grow." -Averyl

At the end of this active Monday, a group of children played with the parachute in the Walnut Room.
The children worked together to move the ball on the top of the parachute without dropping the ball on to the floor.

"We all have a handle!" -Annika

Goats Joined The Children at School!!

This morning the children were welcomed back from the long weekend with goats that were outside during centers! The baby goats chased the children around, and the children got to pet the goats and hold a bunny that also was outside. The rain held off for today, so it was great weather for running around and playing with goats!
Lily P.J gently petted the baby goat as Muadh and Sage gathered around to get a close look at the goat. Andre said, "I want him to chase me!"
Victoria said, "awww!"
Ariona said, "This is a big one!"
Harper got a turn to hold the bunny that was outside. Tegan said, "I want a turn!" The children took turns holding the bunny in their arms, while sitting on the bench outside.
