Outside Fun!

Happy Friday!

The children spent the half day outside running around and having fun. They had some special things to do today outside. Eassays helped Mrs. Nims clean out the rain barrels and fill them so the children could have water with the sand in the sandbox. Then the children took the buckets, pitchers, and toy trucks to the barrels to fill up and they made mud and explored how water and sand effect each other.

The children had another option to work with water today as well. The teachers got out the watering cans and a tub full of water so the children could help water the flowers and vegetables that were planted on Monday. They got to fill their own watering can and work in the area that they wanted to water. This way everyone is responsible for caring for the nature in our environment.

Fun in the sun!

Happy Thursday! Our third week of summer is almost over.  Today was a beautiful day to spend some time outside.  During the afternoon we had a game of red light green light going on in the Zen Garden outside of the CDLL. The kids were having fun running around trying to be the first person to get to the child calling red light green light. They were even making up new rules to the game such as yellow light when you have to run really really slow. Towards the end of the game they started just running on green light and not stopping when the child said red light to see who could get to the end first. It was a great day to be outside!

Let's Play Soccer!

Happy Wednesday!  We didn't know if it was going to rain or not today so we were happy to see that it never showed.  In the afternoon, we started a game of soccer in the Zen Garden in front of the CDLL outside.  Sometimes it was the children trying to score on the teachers and other times we had two teams that each had a teacher on them.

The children got really into playing the game.  Many of them even scored on the teachers and were very proud.  There was no out of bounds or a score but, that didn't matter because they all had so much fun playing this free for all game of soccer.  They ran all over the place and at the end we they were all exhausted.

The Colorful Parachute!

Today one of the activities outside was playing with the blue, red, green and yellow parachute! The children had so much fun doing this with the teachers. As a group we shook the parachute while sitting on the ground then with a ball on top. The goal was to see how long we could keep the ball on there. The children played cat and mouse; the mouse was underneath the parachute while the cat was on top trying to find the mouse; while we shook the parachute again! They were all able to play cat or mouse as they chose. We all sat underneath the parachute too. The children laughed and had a great time with this activity.

Once we were under the parachute Zoey said, "It's hot under here!"

The children seeing how long they can keep the ball on top of the parachute!

The children playing Cat and Mouse. Harper was the cat and Larry was the mouse.

Chipp-a-waters Park!

Today the children got to spend their morning at the Chipp-a-was water Park playing on the swings and play structure. Some parents joined us in the fieldtrip and got to see their children play with their classmates. The children had so much fun playing all morning and had lunch at the tables in the pavilion area. The children had the experience of going through Veits Woods to get to the Cipp-a-was water Park.

Working in the Garden

Happy Monday!

Today the children got to play outside in the morning. While outside some of the children helped plant the gardens out on the playground. They started out planting Marigolds in a few of them beds and the different planters around the playground.

After they got the Marigolds planted they moved to the vegetable garden and started planting seeds. They planted pumpkins, zucchini, green beans, and corn. The children had fun exploring what the different seeds looked like. They also liked coming up with ideas for how they could use the different vegetables. Be it to explore or to use in the cooking classes in the kitchen.

We all enjoyed our enhancing our outdoor experience at school.

Ready, Set, Hop!

Today students enjoyed moving their bodies outside. One of the ways they moved was by playing hopscotch. A hopscotch path was drawn on the cement with chalk. Students made their way along the hopscotch layout and went back again for another turn. The hopscotch event ended quickly when the rain came rushing down and we had to make our way indoors.

Oliver said, "Is that hopscotch?"

Madison said, "I wanna do it again."
