Hello families & friends,

Today was another eventful day here at the CDLL!

The Walnut room was filled with children utilizing the light and shadow area.

Children were also busy playing in the fake snow, using spray bottles filled with blue paint to add color!

In the Oak classroom Kelly, Davis, and William W created centerpieces with recycled objects for the Michigan Creations – Beautiful Stuff Seminar that our CDLL staff will be attending this Saturday in Lansing!

The pottery wheel was busy in the afternoon as well!

In the Maple classroom, Oliver was building with the foam blocks and used magnetic triangles for a sidewalk connecting the two buildings.
"This is a movie theater and this is the house!”
Damian was pretending to screw an invisible nail into the old alarm clock.
“I’m trying to work on this. I’m trying to get this clonk out with this strab.”
Michael was building with the magnetic squares and triangles and putting his dinosaur in the middle of the five walls he had build.
“I’m building this house for this dinosaur.”
In Pod A, the children went on a walk to the pond by the Library before lunch. The kids LOVED jumping in the puddles. The children all thought the water was going to be frozen.  When they saw that the pond had not melted they started making snowballs with the icy snow and was throwing them into the pond to watch the water splash.

Hope you all enjoyed your Tuesday as well,

 Happy Monday Everyone!

Today was a short day due to the weather delay, but we still had a lot of fun!

In the Walnut room we played with fake snow and used spray bottles filled with water colors to color the snow.  We used the foam peanuts to make cake and hot chocolate.

In the Oak room we made Ooblek with water and cornstarch, the children were spreading it all over their hands and arms.

In the Maple room we built train tracks and made dinosaur houses out of magnet tiles.  The children also used legos to make houses.

In the Pine room we did a lot of cooking and played with the babies.

At the end of the day all of the children gathered in the indoor movement room and were able to do what they wanted.  Some children were singing, playing instruments, climbing the rock wall and doing different tricks on the mats.

Hello families!
Today was another busy day in the CDLL. Several children assisted Mrs. Kauppi with preparing snack today by making English muffin pizzas.
In the indoor movement room, the children were busy tumbling and rolling on the mats. Many children moved their bodies like animals such as snakes, dogs, and cats as they went across the mats as well.
"I'm a nice snake, I won't bite." -Chloe

In the Maple room, children built wooden structures to resemble skyscrapers.

Since it was cold outside, we explored the EHS building but went outside later on in the day.
"Look! There is the shed! That is where we play!"-Ben R.

In the Pine room, children were facilitating doctor play as well as being a secretary.
"I have two jobs. I am a part time secretary but I also take care of people. I'm a doctor." -Sidney G.

The hallway was filled with sounds of music coming from a wide variety of instruments like the bells and the drums. The children were very interested in exploring the different types of instruments.

The pottery section of the Oak room was very popular again today.
"Do you want me to play you a song so I can put you to sleep?" -Sydney N.
We hope everyone has a fantastic and safe weekend!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

It was our first day back after a long three day weekend and the children were ready to go!  They had knife safety appointments in the kitchen throughout the day to prepare for using these utensils at lunchtime.

Right after lunch in the large movement room, the children from Pod A participated in a giant game of Red Light Green Light on the new Galgoci race track.

Due to the extremely cold temperature today, the children didn't go outside.  Instead they went on a scavenger hunt wituilh their small groups.  This involved traveling around the entire EHS building, looking for places that pictures had been taken of.  It was a great fun way to keep them moving and they loved the little journey.

The Oak Room was very popular today with a few new activities.  The pottery wheel was open for the first time since break and had a long line of children ready to use it.  Some made pots and others made volcanoes.  Mrs. Bristley also had large glass bottles available for the children to paint after showing them examples from a CMU student that had layer after layer of texture.

"Pottery can take a long time, you can't rush it." - Helen Montross

The children are enjoying a number of new activities in the Pine Room.  These include the combined vet and doctors office, as well as the new pizza parlor.  The children have fun in pretend play caring for each other and their pets and then serving up some free pizza.

Today in the Maple Room, the trains were very popular.  Some made long trains while others made short ones.  A few students set up some of the curved blocks to create a tunnel for their trains to go through.

It was a great active day back from a long weekend and I can't wait to see how the rest of the week unfolds.
