Simple Objects Lead To Great Conversations!

Some of the CDLL children took advantage of the sun this morning finding their way to the art table that was full of different activities. First they made pine cone bird feeders. They choose their own pine cone and took their time spreading Crisco then sprinkling bird seeds all over!

Annabella explained, "Wow! This pine cone is really pokey if you touch it in the wrong way and it's easy to slip away with this cooking stuff!".

Aidan said, "Crisco is like butter. It's greasy".

Tony and Serenity were having a conversation about how the birds belly will feel after eating the hard bird seeds.

"What if we were birds and ate this kind of food?" asked Tony.

"I wouldn't like it very much, it doesn't look good" responded Serenity.

"Yeah me neither! What if we could fly? Where would go!" said Tony.

"I would fly so high, that I could see everything!" exclaimed Serenity.

At the second art table outside, many children got to sketch out the bugs that were set out. They would sketch out the bugs that they choose with pencil. Trace it with a black marker so you could see the outline. After, the children were able to paint with water colors! 

When Nikayla was asked where she thought lady bugs came from she responded, " They grew in a far away place in the ground that no one knew about them, they dug their way up through the grass to here!"

"I'm going to draw this monarch butterfly. they drink and eat from flowers to get nectar." said William.

"Wow that's smart of you to say!"Nikayla said.

William responded, "Yeah and bees like this one can sting except honey bees because they just make honey"!

A Great Way to End the Week!

 Today was a very eventful day at the CDLL.  The children enjoyed a dance performance in the Oak Room by Gigi's mom and Mrs. Bristley's granddaughter.

During snack, the Pod Cart from Central Michigan University delivered refreshing treats to the children.   

                                                              

 PJ said, "Why are there cucumbers in the water?"
                                                       Sabryna said, "The water looks like a rainbow."

 For the large group activity outside some of the student teachers made exploding chalk paint.

Dance & Music Galore!

Today children got the opportunity to watch a music and dance performance by Mrs. Bristley's Grandaughter, another child's mother who had danced her entire life, as well as a violin performance by Mrs. Nelson to go along with one of the dances. The children loved watching them perform the different dances and listening to the music! Everyone wanted to dance and thought the music and dances were wonderful and amazing! Dances included a hip-hop routine, a ballet routine, and a folk music ballet routine!

Today was a GREAT Thursday! Have an amazing weekend!

Hallway Fun!

As the weather is getting warmer, the days spent outside are plentiful. Many children have been choosing to go play outside, but some children are having a great time inside as well! During AM center time a few children began working in the hallway on many different activities, such as cutting out hearts, making booklets, drawing pictures and having tea parties.

"I want to make big hearts of out paper" Jamie said.

"You go down here, made a circle then cut down at the top" Jamie explained. 

After cutting many hearts Jamie noticed the paper she was getting rid of could be used as something too! 

                                                 

                                                "Look now I have a mask!" Jamie said. 

"Here Marcilyn you try." Jamie suggested. 

While Jamie was working on her hearts and masks, Marcilyn was working hard on making a booklet. She used many pieces of paper cutting out squares taping each one on the paper front and back! 

Evan was also working at the writing center cutting paper! Sanuthi began playing with the light table in the hallway. She was creating sandwiches out of the felt pieces. After that she moved over to the writing center as well. She began drawing a picture of her family!

"I am cutting lines" Evan explained.

"My family and my favorites." Sanuthi said. 

We began approaching clean up time before we needed to start heading down to lunch, Marcilyn looked over to Jamie and said,

"We're working so hard we will have to clean up real good!"

Family Celebration!

Today in Mrs. Nims small group we had our family celebration! The children of her group had the chance to enjoy lunch and cupcakes that they decorated earlier in the week with their families. They also had the chance to sing their families some songs that they have been singing all year! The songs that they sang were Twinkle twinkle little star, five speckled frogs, they acted that song out for their families and slippery fish. We had a great family celebration!

Bug Mania!

The warmer the weather, the bigger the bugs! The children are continuing to be interested in catching all sorts of bugs around our outdoor area. The bug habitat has proved to be a popular site for the last few weeks. There was a butterfly and a large beetle caught today and both were getting shown off. It's great to see the children enjoying nature and all it has to offer. Hopefully the weather stays nice so we can spend as much time outside as possible!

Danny lets the bugs crawl all over his hands and arms. He shows everyone his catch of the day.

Here Micah explains how he caught a butterfly: "I was tiptoeing and it (the butterfly) wasn't looking at me. Then I catched it."

Tuesday Beach Day

On Monday there was new materials added to one of the rooms (Pine). The children had so much fun acting like they were at the beach. They liked sitting in the chairs by the pool, using the floats, and even putting on visors.

"I'm dancing in the water, it feels great!"

Outside there was a "Basketball Skills Camp" taking place. The children were dribbling the basketballs (spider drill), shooting them in the hoop (shooting practice), and working on controlling where the ball was going-some were even trying to pass the basketball into various spaces. There was some dunking!

Of course, the Photo booth was popular again today! We even got Teachers to try!
