The Amphitheater!

Today was the first day that the amphitheater was open for the children to play in. There were a lot of new discoveries made by the children. Micah, Grant, Sarah, and Zoey H were running through the amphitheater creating different noises with their bodies and mouths. They stomped their feet, clapped their hands, and shouted!

Making Bridges!

Today in the Maple Room Axel and Dakota worked on building ramps for their cars to go down. They experimented with different kinds of blocks; for the ramp, the starting point, and the landing point. They worked on what placement and materials they wanted, that would make their ramps stay and have their cars go fast!

Measuring Different Rocks!

Today in the Walnut room, Asher and Lily learned how to use the scale. 

They used the scale by weighing rocks. There were big rocks, small rocks, 

rocks that were heavy, and rocks that were light. 

All a different shape, size, and color!

Asher liked using the big rocks! He liked comparing the heavy ones to the light ones!

"Take a picture of this BIG rock!"

Lily liked to make the scale even by adding rocks to the side that weighs less.

"I made it even by adding this rock to that side and taking this rock out!"

CDLL Astronauts!

Today marks a full week that school has been in session! The children are getting use to the routine of the day. The pine room was quite popular today. The Pine room is designed for lots of pretend play. A few of the children discovered our astronaut suits today and had a great time, not only going to the moon but also to the beach. 

"We need this to drive." --Hailee M. 

They brought along a purse, a baby doll, their keys, and their imagination. Each had an idea in mind of where they should go and why. They also worked really well together to make sure everyone got a chance to visit their destination. Makenna made sure to dress her doll before heading off on their next adventure. 

They're adventure lasted most of center time and it was great to see how engaged they were with their plans and their interactions with one another.

Wednesday September 9th, 2015

Today during center time Axel, Carter B. and Asher explored in the Walnut Room. They discovered the Magna-Tiles and began to create different shapes and structures. Their adventure began by only stacking the tiles flat, but they soon discovered ways to make 3D cubes. Upon this discovery, they began creating houses for the plastic animals that were nearby. Axel made a large house for his parrot to be comfortable. Asher made a smaller cube for his gorilla to live in. Throughout their time in the Walnut Room they made many discoveries about the shapes they could make and the endless possibilities of the Magna-Tiles.

"Mine is a bigger place. More animals can fit in mine. There's lots of space" -Axel

Axel created a home for his parrot, while Asher created a home for his gorilla. 

"Mine are all boxes. They are all closed so it doesn't snow on them" -Asher

Asher enjoyed showing other children how to create the cubes.

Tuesday September 8th, 2015

Today was the first day that children were able to make a plan to decide what classroom to spend their morning activity time in. During large group they put their name next to the picture of which area they wanted to go to and headed there when group was over. They could choose any of the four classrooms, the indoor movement room, the kitchen, or the hallway.

The work bench in the Maple room was popular today! Children put on safety goggles and used the plastic hammers to pound the nails into the Styrofoam square. Many people forget the hallway is also an activity center, but it was full of music. Children played with the bells, stringed instruments, symbols, xylophone, maracas, and drums!

Early Learning Expectation: Instrumental and Vocal Music. Children show how they feel, what they  think, and what they are learning through listening, participating in, and creating instrumental and vocal music experiences. Become more familiar with and experiment with a variety of musical instruments.

Tuesday 9/8, Children are able to chose where they want to explore

Tuesday, September 8th  2015

Today was the first day that children were able to explore all of the rooms in the CDLL. At the beginning of the day children are able to chose a room they would like to start. 

Children may chose another room once they have started but they need to start in the room that they have chosen. 

 Children may chose the discovery room, the art studio, the construction area, the pretend area, kitchen, indoor movement, and the hallway. This gives them many choices for activities for the day. 

Asher, Benjamin, Aidan, and Ainsley chose to start in the Art Studio.
