June 07 2011, Pod A

Hello all!
Today was a hot day at the CDLL but that didn’t slow us down! We were very busy today and there were a few big events that happened.
During center time, the construction area was very busy. We had many children building with wood blocks and magnetic tiles. The children like to build big things in the construction center. We let them save their projects so they can come and work on them later in the day or even the next day. Today Andrew and Cambreion worked together to build a big car wash. They even made tunnels for the cars to go through and get washed!

Also during center time, we had a big event; Pod A and Pod B released the butterflies! The children have waited so long to see the caterpillars turn into butterflies. They loved having the butterflies in the room but they were so thrilled to take them outside and release them into nature. They got so excited when the butterflies flew really high into the sky! Bess said she liked releasing the butterflies and Nevaeh thought they flew away to get something to drink.
Getting ready to release the butterflies!
Connor talking in the two-way radio!
An even bigger event that happened today was eating lunch with police officers! We had six total policemen and policewomen from the Central Michigan Police come visit our school today. They sat with the children during lunch and talked to the children.  After eating, the officers talked to everyone about what an emergency was and how to be safe. Then all the children went outside to look at the police cars. They were so excited! They loved sitting in the cars and playing with the sirens. They even got to say something using the two-way radio! After that, the children came back inside and got a present from the officers; a pencil that changes colors and a badge sticker!
As you can see, today was very exciting for all of the children. The events haven’t stopped yet though. On Wednesday and Thursday we will have little field trips for some children to go see a Kindergarten classroom and see where they will be in the fall. Feel free to look at the blog tomorrow and Thursday to see what else the children will be doing!
Fondly,
Samantha “Ms.” Corey
