Waiting For Our Beans to Sprout!

Earlier this week we read the book, "One Bean" written by Anne Rockwell in Mrs. Potters small group. After seeing such curiosity in growing bean plants, today we decided to explore with the beans. First, we folded the paper towel in half then we placed the beans in our towel. After, we needed to spray water on our towels to keep the beans moist enough to sprout before planting them. When I asked what we need to do to help the beans grow Destiny said, "first they're going to grow"...Olivia K. added, "and then they will become baby plants" and Jamie said, "then they will grow tall and up those thingy's outside".
Max was very careful pulling apart his paper towel because it was "stuck together and needs to get wet"
"They're not growing...they need water", Dominic noticed after seeing a dry paper towel and not change in his bean.
After giving water to our beans, we took photographs to reflect on the growth of our beans after they get sprout. William was focusing hard on making sure that his beans get in the picture and that we can clearly see it.

Each student was paired up to share a tray with another, Isabell was spraying the bean she said, " it needs water to grow bigger" while Sarah patiently waited for her turn to spray.

We can't wait to see them sprout soon!

Making a Breakfast Out of Clay!

Today in the Art Room we had a very big imagination! In the morning Olivia and Helena were working in the clay area. We talked about what the clay felt like and Olivia said, "It feels cold, and like rain to me." Then Helena said "Mine is hard, and cold and reminds me of breakfast." Helena placed the rag over her clay and started to work with the clay underneath the rag. I asked her what she was making but she told me it was a secret. Olivia was rolling her clay into a snake! Makenzie joined the group a little later, and started to make a few things too. The three girls shared the materials very well, and thought it was funny that they were all making pancakes. They also noticed the different sizes they made their pancakes. Then each of them pretended to eat the pancakes after they were finished making them!
This was when Helena was working on her "Secret Project."

Olivia wanted to see what she was working on, and Helena said, "Wait! Its almost done."

Helena showed the table what she had been working on was a pancake! So Makenzie started pressing her clay into a pancake as well!

Olivia made a pancake too, but she used a big roller to roll hers out!

Another fun way to read a story as we ended our day, Mrs. Potter wrapped up outside time by reading a story below the bridge as the children waited to be picked up. They read "The Three Billy Goats Gruff!"

Hope you all have a great rest of the week!

Excitement in the Pretend Room!

Today in the Pine room the children spent a lot of time in the camp fire area.  Children made marshmallows, hot chocolate, and s'mores.  Others shared ice cream.  The children worked together on sharing the materials and enjoyed their time together at the camp fire.

The children also had fun in the fruit market, comparing and exchanging their fruits.  They enjoyed "buying" the fruit and carrying it in their grocery carts and baskets.

Hallway Fun

Happy second day back at school!
Today children in the hallway were having fun at the writing/mail station.
Some children were even playing some of the musical instruments.
A few children were sitting at a table enjoying some "lunch" together and asking their waiter or waitress for more water.
Some children were engaged in the set of three bears with chairs, bowls, beds, and one Goldilocks. Children would ask a teacher to read the book. Children were able to recall parts of the story while playing with the bears. They even thought that the Great Big Bear would be angry when he said, "Somebody's been sitting in my chair." The story ended with Goldilocks getting out of the Bears house so fast she went out the window, the children thought that was not a good place to exit by asking, "Why did she go out the window?"

"What's Missing?"

Welcome Back! Today during Mrs. Nims small group, we played a game called "What's Missing?" There were six different objects. The objects were a marker, scissors, polar bear, a lego man, a button and an egg. We started with three objects on the tray for the first round, but the children found that to be very simply, so we worked our way up to six objects on the tray. We would lay the objects on the tray and talk about what the objects were and then we would cover it up and one of the objects would go missing! The children then had to figure out what object was missing. The children enjoyed looking at the tray and figuring out what objects went missing.

Sand, Worms and Bugs... Oh my!

Happy first day back to school! Today we spent a lot of time outside because it was so nice. Many children used the sand pit while we were outside. They pretended to make a variety of cakes, and some of them even opened a cake shop. Other children found bugs, and dug for worms. We enjoyed having many adventures on our first day back and we cant wait for more this semester!

                                                          Owen- “ I think I hit water.”

Aya made a sand castle: "I used half wet sand and half dry because the wet sand makes it hard."
                                                           Olivia dug up a worm!
Kallix pretended the wood chips were 'hot lava' and made it all the way across without touching the 'hot lava'!
James- "The cake is done! I made strawberry and chocolate cake but we don't work when its sunny."

Have a great week!
