Valentine's Fever!

This afternoon students were making valentine's in the hallway-writing center. There was valentine cards added to the writing center that the children were able to write on and send to other students and teachers through the mailboxes in the hallway. I brought out some books for inspiration and the children began hard at work making their cards. With the holiday around the corner, this is a great way for children to think of others and send a picture or a note!

African Dancing!

Today during the Health Group the children worked on their second day of African Dancing! On Tuesday they were introduced to this video and were able to work on their dancing skills and today they worked on it again. Later this week the children will be able to learn even more types of dances. Mrs. Gursky asked the children, "What types of dance or exercise does your family do at home?" Please share!

New Activities in the Oak Room!

Today was a busy busy day in the whole school. We have most of the children back at school since the big snow storm on Monday. We have introduced some new and exciting activities in the Oak room. One of these activities is painting with bright colors. However, instead of using paint brushes, the children got to use clothes pins and pom pom balls to paint with. Children were able to take the clothespin and pinch a pom pom with it. After they had the pom pom attached to the clothespin, they were able to pic a color to paint with and get started. This was an exciting new way for the children to explore materials that can be used in the art studio.

Happy Tuesday!!

After a Monday filled with lots of snow, it was great to see most of our CDLL children back at school! It was an exciting day for us, as we welcomed a new child, Carter K., into our school. Carter K. made his way down to the Maple room and explored with the small Legos. 

Carter began grabbing the Lego pieces and stacking them on top of each other. 

When asked about what he was building he said,

"It's a car for these skeletons to drive"

We also would like to thank William, for allowing us to discover the world of dinosaurs. William brought his dinosaur book in from home, to share with the school. He left his dinosaur book in the Maple room, for anyone to come and read. 

William sat and told Sarah about many dinosaurs and their many qualities.

Ice, Sand, And A Helping Hand!

This week in the Walnut room we introduced ice blocks and a new recipe for sand for the children. The children worked together to use watercolors to paint on the ice blocks and observe. The children used a recipe with three ingredients to make sand as well. They were able to touch the sand and make observations.

Gigi and Elizabeth painted and observed the cracks in the ice.

Let's Pin With A Little Creativity

Last week a few children were interested in a snowman clothes pin worn by one of their teachers. With the guidance of lead teachers, the idea to help the children create their own pins became our special project in the Oak Classroom. Today, a small group of children began creating their own unique pins out of several different crafting supplies. They created pins for themselves and friends. Some students even prep their pins to be painted at another time. 

"I think I need to let mines dry before I add my pin to it." -Sarah 

Daniel: "I need two eyes for my pin."

Sarah: "One eye is bigger and one is smaller, you have to get two that are the same.Here use this one."

Daniel: "Thank You."

"I'm going to make a snowman pin. I need to make a mouth for my snowman pin. When it dry I will paint it." -Brooke

Hi Ho Hi Ho! Down The Hill We Go!

There were only 15 kids at school today.  We missed all of you who weren't here today and hope to see you tomorrow!  During outside time we took all the kids who wanted to go sledding for a walk to a small hill.  The children had a blast out in the snow and went down the hill several times.    Some children rode in the sleds alone and some asked for teachers to ride along.  We had a blast and shared a lot of laughs together!
