Empanada cooking experience

This week some children had the experience to bake empanadas from scratch as a part of their small group. Their interest for this activity came from their discussions about people having different likes and dislikes and accepting those differences; children have experienced taste testing salty empanadas as a part of their lunch menu and wanted to try something new!

Children mixed dry ingredients to create the dough for the empanadas.

 They kneaded the dough.
Children measured pineapple and other ingredients to create a pineapple filling.

The empanadas were filled and refrigerated overnight and they got to taste their delicious pastries during small group! The children in this small group also referenced the directions for the empanada recipe as they went along.

A Treasure Hunt!

This morning, Dominic and Daniel had a treasure hunt. They made treasure maps using markers and pen.  They went around the Walnut room trying to find their treasure.  They had to go around the rocks to find the treasure.

Take A Bow!

Today in the Oak room many different children made up their story lines to act out. Different characters were played such as pigs, wolves, tigers, and lions. The children worked together to make up new stories and were very creative with new costume ideas, such as tails they made by tapping together strips of paper! At the end of their performances teachers had them hold hands and take a bow! The imagination and creativity was so much fun to watch!

"I'm going to be the wolf that has big scary claws" - Tony

Hala sang into the microphone and pretended she was a pig with a voice.

Today the performances we're awesome and it was a very interactive Wednesday!

Fire! Fire! Everywehere Fire!

A few weeks ago we added a new area in Pine Room, it was a Fire Station. We have a fire truck and it has four seats inside for children to sit and interact. Children have been enjoying this fire station based on the busy days in this room. The children can go around the room putting fires out. Today children were playing with fire hoses. They wore fire uniforms and used caution tape in the fire station.

A Blustery Day In March

The children spend a lot of time outside on this windy day. Many different activities were taking place. The bikes and scooters were very popular. Some children decided to ride the multiple seated bikes together, or even push another child in a wheel barrel. The children climbed the play
structure and rocks. Children were also playing tag and chasing one another around the playground.

Gigi and Kate climbed the ropes.

Luke pedaled his way down the path.

Aya, Annabella, and Marcilyn all rode a bike together.

Makayla climbed a structure to use the mega phone.

Sumaya climbed a rock so she could sit.

Dominic pushed Max in a wheel barrel.

Jump for Joy!

For the second day in a row, the children were able to enjoy some extra time outside because of the beautiful weather. Some of the student teachers brought out the jump ropes for everyone to enjoy during the afternoon and the children took turns using them both individually and in small groups. The children who were more familiar with the jump ropes also helped teach and encourage those that may not have been as familiar with them.

"We hold it like this and you jump." - Max

"You did it! You jumped so high!" - Kate

"You have to jump faster, Olivia!" - Gigi

- Cooper

Today in the Maple Room, every area had a lot of traffic and most of it stayed in. The construction area was filled with children building towers, structures, and ramps, most of the children worked together, others on their own. The light table was even getting some action as the children built structures out of the magnetic tiles. Also the circle rug had a lot of traffic with many different activities. Some were making train tracks and others were making more ramps. The atmosphere in the Maple room was at an all time high and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

 Everyone have a fantastic week!
