The End of Another Great Week!!

Today was the end of yet another fun filled week. The kids had a lot of fun with the new things that was going on this week and continued the fun today! We finished building our structures today that will be used for pour painting next week. For lunch we joined pods and ate together in the zen garden. They had so much fun being able to eat lunch with their classmates from the other pod. The rain started a little bit after lunch, but by center time in the afternoon, it cleared up.

The drums in the hallway and outside were popular today. In the hallway they were using the music sheets to use the correct notes on the drums, and were also learning how to use some of the new drums we have. They had a lot of fun outside with our big gathering drum and experimenting the different sounds it can make.Vance realized that it sounds differnet when you hit it with your hand compared to the drum sticks.

They finished planting today and are now becoming expert planters!! Some children helped Mr. Jonaitis finish planting his tomato plants. They loosened the dirt with some rakes and shovels and then dug holes for the plants to go in.

The light tables were something new for the children to experience today. In the black light corner in the walnut room, they were experimenting writing and drawing with highlighters. They also had fun with a light table that had colored rice on it.

We're all looking forward to the fun and exciting couple more weeks we have left here at the CDLL!!!

Have a Great Weekend!

Another Day Outside!

We were so happy to spend yet another day outside this week.  The weather allowed us to plant our vegetable garden. The children helped us plant tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, green and yellow peppers, squash, carrots and corn. The whole process was fun: digging the dirt with our hands and shovels, finding grubs and worms, then planting either seeds or plants.

Both pods ate lunch together today over by the pond close to the library. The scenery was beautiful between the landscape, pond and gazebo. After lunch we climbed and jumped on the rocks, crawled through a tunnel, jumped in potato sacks, tossed some bean bags, played with the parachute, and even rolled down the hill.

Today was a special day that we used the computer to sykpe to our friends. Osama and Samir have been gone for the summer semester. The children and staff have missed them and were glad we had the chance to talk and visit with them again.

It was a little chilly outside today, but we will take it over the rain. We hope the sun will come out tomorrow.

Beautiful Tuesday!

We have been lucky to have beautiful weather for the past two days. It has allowed us to play outside and get some fresh air. Most of the children have been enjoying their time outside doing various activities such as playing ball, working on puzzles, spending time at the art cart and much more!

In the Maple room children worked together to build leggo houses and leggo cars. Mataeo and Mark were busy at the writing center writing thank you letters to the police officers and bubble group from yesterday.

In the Oak room children worked on building the structures for pour paint which we will start this week.

Campus grow came to our school this afternoon to gather children to help plant sunflower seeds and marigold seeds. The children were busy digging holes, planting the seeds and watering the plants to help them grow.

Today was a beautiful day to be outside and we hope for more beautiful weather!

Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Fun Filled Monday!

Over the weekend the butterflies emerged from the chrysalis's and were welcomed into the world.  Today many children, and their families, visited the Walnut room to check out the butterflies!

The CMU police visited the CDLL today and the children really enjoyed their time spent with the officers.  Officer Ballard and Officer Rico talked with the children about safety.  When they asked the children what they knew about safety some replied by saying "no going in the road" and "cross the road with your teacher".  They Officers then asked the children if they knew what a stranger was.  Asher said "bad guys".  Oliver R. said "someone you don't know".  Talia said "someone you don't know and they might take something".  The police officers told the children if there is ever a stranger to yell stranger danger to help keep them safe.

High fives from Officer Ballard!

(Left)Trying on police officer clothing.  Damian said "this shirt is long, all the way to my toes".

(Right) Officer Rico passing out badge stickers to all the children.

Lunch Time!

Matt got all buckled in the back of one of the police cars.  He said "wow, this is fun!"  While inside the police cars the children were able to push the siren buttons, turn on the flashing lights, talk in the microphone, and even call dispatch and talk over the walkie talkie.

Later in the afternoon some CMU science methods students came to the CDLL to let the children explore with bubbles in  many different ways!

We had a great day at the CDLL today, we hope you all did too!
See you tomorrow =)

Rain Or Shine We Still Have Fun!

Most of the children were excited to hear that outside was an option for AM center time. During center time children had an opportunity to help paint the backdrop for their fish mural! No they did not paint with brushes but with their FEET AND HANDS!

Since it's Thursday we set off on a picnic! This time we walked to the open area between Anspach and Pearce! While enjoying sandwiches and milk, the children saw construction workers working on Anspach and noticed many men on the roof!

Pod B decided to turn their small group time into an obstacle course! This included jumping in and out of a hula hoop, a balance beam, bean bag toss, crawling though a tunnel, a sac race and balancing an egg on a spoon! Man was it hot! Everyone made it though one round while others couldn't get enough! As soon as we were done and all in our resting areas, BOOM! came the thunder, lightening and rain! We made it in just in time.

For the remainder of the day we were forced to stay inside! This was due to thunder and scattered rain. It wasn't all that bad because of the many activities available inside for the children to engage in. The Oak room is always popular! A stage and arts and crafts! Not many were too upset about staying inside!

Lets hope for a hot one Monday so we can enjoy WATER DAY! and welcome CMU Police with warm smiles!

Finally some sunshine!

Today we finally were able to get outside and enjoy the nice weather.  Outside was available for a choice during center time today and the children took full advantage.  Those who stayed inside worked on spin art and kept an eye on the caterpillars, making guesses about when the butterflies are going to arrive. Some children went to the woods and others got to check out Vowels kindergarten! The rest of the children had a combined lunch with Pod A and Pod B at a picnic location of Moore Hall.

During small group time, Pod A went outside to the zen garden and played with the parachute and had a quick game of kickball.  The children loved playing red rover with the parachute, each having a chance to run underneath and check out the colors!

After rest time, all of the children were back at the CDLL and many children cooled off after outside snack in the misters.  Some children got soaked, while others just got their feet wet!

We had a fun-filled day today, and hopefully we can enjoy the sunshine again tomorrow! See everyone then!

Welcome back on this rainy tuesday!

We will keep hoping for sunshine so we can be outside all day, but until then we will stay busy inside.  Due to the rain, during center time all of rooms are open for the children to explore freely.  Since it's the beginning of the week there are many new things going on in the different classrooms.  Some blue shaving cream on the light table in the Oak room along with a new mirror in the stage area for performances.  Also check out the new picnic materials in the Pine room!! Here are a few pictures from today and some new things in our classrooms.

In the Walnut room the caterpillars are still in the chrysalis stage! Don't forget to check out our live web stream at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/14518639.

Bill adding dots of paint to his spin art!
In the Oak room many children enjoyed the new spin art painting.  This had children waiting to try it all day.  Each picture created was different and unique in it's own way! They really had fun with this new special project today!

During outside time Pod A (Walnut and Oak) went on group walks through our building (EHS) going on all the different floors, looking out windows, and using the elevator.
Pod B (Maple and Pine) went and played with the parachute.  They enjoyed running underneath and switching spots and also pretending they were popping popcorn on top of it!

Let's hope we all see the sunshine tomorrow!
