In the Walnut Room, the teachers brought a car wash to the water table. At the beginning of morning centers, the children helped with a science experiment to make fizzing soap for the car wash. With help from Ms. Gage, the children put soap, baking soda, and vinegar into a bucket to watch the reaction. It made a foaming liquid that the children noticed fizzed like soap from a car wash.
P.J., Gabrielle, Jace, and Micah helped with the experiment by adding soap, baking soda, and spraying the mixture with vinegar.

Today, in the Oak Room, we started to paint the backdrop for the stage. The children had taken a lot of time in previous weeks sketching what they thought should be on the backdrop. Some of the sketches we got consisted of paths, trees, houses, squirrels, flowers, clouds, and flowers. Out of all of the sketches the teachers projected parts from each one on the backdrop in black marker. The children helped today by adding color to it. Hopefully next week it will be finished and hung on the stage for children to encourage different types of acts.
Olivia K. concentrated really hard on filling in
the tree trunk with brown paint.
Makayla worked with Mrs. Bristley on using
slow and steady strokes with her paint brush.
Gabrielle spent a lot of time coloring in the tree
with green paint.

A small group of children took on a photo scavenger hunt today on the playground. The children were given 10 items to seek and capture in order to finish the scavenger hunt. They enjoyed the idea of finding things on their own and helping other children finish the scavenger hunt as well. The children were able to take the photos and review the pictures so that they could prove which pictures they took. After completing the task the children were able to take pictures of anything they found interesting. Some students decided to seek out structures while others took pictures of other children and teachers.

Children in the Pine room were very busy this morning brainstorming ideas to continue their castle construction. After discussing different ideas, a group of children came together and decided that they wanted to work on creating a roof.
Children suggested to use something like the box material. With teachers help they were able to observe if the cardboard tube being used was the right size or if adjustments had to be made.
"I think we need to cut it. Maybe right about here" (pointing to where he believe it needed to be cut)- Daniel
After children compared and measured the remaining cardboard tubes, teachers cut them out to be decorated!
"Im going to use markers to decorate my piece of roof"- Owen
" I think i want to put some purple and orange flowers on my piece of roof" -Leah

This afternoon the teachers decided to have an obstacle course in the Indoor Movement Room because of the rain. The children had to walk through hula-hoops. They had to balance on a balance beam, go over the wooden stairs, go through a tube, jump on circles, go through another tube, and finally, throw a ball into a bucket.
This afternoon the Pine room seen a lot of action. The research group working in the Pine room have been working all week on figuring out what everyone could turn this empty box into. The past few days have been devoted to voting and thinking of materials the children (with adult help) would need. The design of the castle was the focus today and many children wanted to give their ideas. The children and Ms. Ratliff started by looking at castle ideas and what things they could add to their own castle. Today the children with the help of Ms. Ratliff added a drawbridge door and a few windows. While Ms. Ratliff was cutting the box the children were directed to the writing center, where they started making flags to put on the top of the castle.
"You have to cut down then over for the door"
"How are we going to close the door bridge?"
"I see something, it's going to open in a second"
"We should do three windows in front"
"I used yellow on my flag"
We are very excited to see what is next for the castle!
Today our small photography group went to a construction area at CMU to take pictures. Children had already taken pictures of the building when construction had just began. So teachers wanted them to compare pictures taken when the construction had just begun and what the building looked like today. The children took pictures of construction workers as well as the building. The children had different thoughts about construction. Olivia K: said, "May be
the building will be done soon. There will be new college students in there." Dominic said "I took the crane's picture."Alex said "I got a picture of the guy in the lift."
